Project: Contemporary Split Panel Sliding Doors With Full Carcase

07 November 2011

On this occasion the clients called us in to offer a bespoke storage solution for their teenage son's bedroom. They wanted a very modern, contemporary feel to the fitted furniture. They preferred the look of sliding doors rather than hinged doors.

As always we worked very closely with the clients to really understand their requirements. Afterall, the wardrobes shouldn't only fit the room (which they did, down to the millimetre); they should also fit the client's lifestyle. It became apparent that the wardrobes would not only be used for storing clothing, but also bedding and even books, folders, etc. The space quite naturally divided in to three. Therefore, we specified three full carcases for the wardrobe interior.

Carcase one was made up of double hanging. Due to the dimensions of the fitted furniture (floor-to-ceiling) we were really able to expand upon the hanging space offered by the previous, free-standing, furniture. Carcase two would be used to store books, folders and even an iPod music dock. If you notice, we left a cut out on the back of the wardrobe so that the mains socket can be accessed. Carcase three was made up of 4 drawers to the bottom and 4 shelves above.

The clients intend to re-decorate the room in the near future. I believe the new colour scheme will be made up of soft shades of brown and duck egg blue. They wanted this theme to continue on the exterior of the wardrobe. As we are able to offer a wide range of colours on the sliding doors, it was very easy to match the theme. The clients went for split panel doors: white, light blue and medium brown.

As you will see from the video, the installation was carried out to our usual high standards. The finished product does look truly stunning. In fact, I believe the clients' exact words were that the “wardrobes look even better than they had imagined”.
