Project: Fitted Alcove Wardrobes | Regal Style | White Ash Woodgrain | Finchley N3

15 May 2012

On this occasion we had the pleasure of working in a well proportioned period property. The client had recently purchased the property and was very tastefully and sympathetically modernising it. We were contacted as the front bedroom had a chimney breast in the middle of it and the client wanted to use a local company that could design, supply and expertly install truly made to measure furniture.

The bedroom was of very good proportions. We advised the clients that the most practical space for the wardrobes would be the alcoves on either side of the chimney. As would be expected each alcove was of a different size. As a result, standard sized furniture (as offered by companies such as IKEA) just wouldn’t make optimum use of the space.

We specified a double wardrobe for the left alcove. For the right alcove we specified a single and double wardrobe. As each wardrobe was made specifically for the opening, the door widths are marginally different. This is much preferred than the practice of using standard sized furniture where you, inevitably, end up with large filler panels.

Double hanging was specified for the double wardrobe in the left alcove. In the single wardrobe we included long hanging with a two drawer chest to the lower level. The last double wardrobe included long hanging and two shelves to the lower level.

Externally, the client wanted to preserve the period feel of the room and, therefore, went for a Regal style for the doors. The finish was again a timeless classic: White Ash Woodgrain. As with all of our installations, soft close mechanisms were fitted to the doors and drawers to minimise noise and prolong the life of the hinges and runners.

An interesting design feature with this installation is the large filler panel to the top of the wardrobes. This is deliberate as the client was going to ask her builder to install coving above the wardrobes so as to blend them in better with the room. If you look closely, you can see where some of the coving has already been installed.

We set ourselves very high standards to work to. This project demonstrates our ability to achieve them in each and every installation. The client is delighted with the finished furniture; and so are we.
